A loaded gun has been seized after police chased a man on foot in Nelson Bay overnight.
Just after midnight police found a car that had been stolen from Rigney Street in Shoal Bay.
A man, who was walking towards the stolen car, ran into bushland when police identified themselves.
Police were unable to locate him but found a loaded double barrel shotgun.
The man is described as being Caucasian, aged in his mid 20s, with very short hair or a shaven head, about 175cm tall with a skinny build.
He was wearing a white hooded jacket and black pants.
