OUT OF CONTROL BUSHFIRE SOUTH OF PORT MACQUARIE
Firefighters on the mid north coast have been kept busy on the last day of 2018, trying to contain a bushfire burning near Port Macquarie.
Fanned by strong winds, the blaze is heading in a south westerly direction, and has scorched around 100 hectares along the Elkhorn Trail at Lake Innes.
16 crews have been working on the ground, while waterbombing aircraft assisted from above… reloading with water from the Hastings River.
Two large Sydney-based airtankers were also called in to assist.
At this stage, no properties are under threat, but Ocean Drive has been closed in both directions… and nearby beaches have been evacuated.
