RATE RISE PROPOSED FOR PORT

Port Macquarie-Hastings ratepayers will be dipping far deeper into their pockets this year, if a proposed rate rise goes ahead.
The council wants to continue a previously-imposed 7.3 per cent increase, due to run out this year.
It’s also proposing an additional 4.43 per cent for the next five years to tackle its infrastructure backlog.
Both amounts are in addition to the state-pegged increase of 3.6 per cent.
Council Administrator Neil Porter will consider the proposals at the first meeting of the year on Wednesday night.
