Port Macquarie surfer Matt Banting has advanced to the third round of the Vans World Cup in Hawaii.
The 24-year-old impressed the judges with his first two waves, scoring a total of 13-point-1-6, less than a point behind South Africa’s Beyrick De Vries.
Banting will take on fellow Aussie Adrian Buchan in the next round.
