MP CALLS FOR Q-FEVER SUBSIDY

A local M-P is calling for Q-Fever immunisations to be subsidised by the federal government.

Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, believes the cost – which can be upwards of $300 – is deterring some people from getting the vaccination.

The bacteria is usually spread through livestock, with those working in related industries advised to get the jab and be protected.

“I have written to the Agriculture Minister, Minister Littleproud and Health Minister Hunt asking for assistance and guidance as to how we might be able to offer some relief to these farmers.”

The illness can potentially leave patients bed-ridden for a significant period of time.

Mr Coulton is set to meet with both ministers later this week.
