COUNCIL SUPPORTS FLYING FOX ‘BUFFER ZONE’

Armidale Regional Council is taking steps to reduce the impacts of flying foxes on residents.
The local colony peaked at around 40,000 last December.
Council will look to reduce the size of the creatures’ habitats ahead of the next roosting season.
“One of the options is to start pruning trees and removing trees within a 15-metre buffer. Trying to reduce the sort of habitat over houses,” Councillor Simon Murray, Mayor Armidale Regional Council.
Council has set aside $50,000 to help with the habitat removal.
