DEER HUNTING REGULATIONS LIFTED TO CONTROL NUMBERS

As the drought wears on, the Tamworth region’s deer population is sky-rocketing.
Farmers will now receive some relief, with the state government lifting hunting regulations.
Licensed hunters will be placed on a register that farmers can access.
The effects of wild deer have been felt near Murrurundi, with Upper Hunter Shire Council looking at ways to reduce their numbers.
A ban on hunting the animals at night – and from a vehicle on public land – remains in place.
