A child is in a serious but stable condition after contracting meningococcal.
It is the third confirmed case of the disease in the Hunter New England Health region this year.
People close to the child have been prescribed clearance antibiotics.
Last year 9 people were treated with for the disease.
The first symptoms of meningococcal disease may include pain in the legs, cold hands and feet and abnormal skin colour.
