A change of pace at the Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium today, with hundreds turning out for the 2018 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Newcastle Open.
Male and female competitors took part across a range of divisions, but there was plenty of focus on the black belt match up between Sydney athletes Alexandre Valverde and Ricardo Zaffranchi.
Following a few intense minutes on the canvas, Zaffranchi was declared the winner.
