CATHEDRALS RING THEIR BELLS FOR CHILDREN ON NAURU

Cathedrals across the country rang their bells on Friday, as they joined the call to bring children from Nauru out of detention.
The bells tolled 38 times; one for each child still on the Island.
“This is part of a nation-wide movement to say it’s time for the children to be brought from Nauru to the mainland so that they can receive the care that’s needed.” – Katherine Bowyer, Dean of Christ Church Cathedral.
“It offends all of our sensibilities that children might end up with lifelong trauma from any policy which was supposed to be for their protection.” – Rev. Peter Stuart, Bishop of Newcastle.
Churches across the diocese will continue to ring the bells every Friday.
