CHINESE INTEREST IN AGRICULTURAL WASTE

A Chinese energy company has its sights set on Gunnedah.
Council and Tongyu Heavy Industry are exploring options to establish a power station in the region.
Gunnedah Shire Council says it would use post-harvest cotton plants for bio-energy and coal for high efficiency and low emission power generation.
Mayor Jamie Chaffey says Gunnedah’s unique location creates great opportunities.
Already being recognised as a potential energy hub, the project could find a better use for agricultural waste at the end of harvest.
Research into the proposal has already begun.
