The Hunter’s swimming spots have been given a good report card by the state government.
The annual State of the Beaches study ranked 84 per cent of local waterways as ‘good’ or ‘very good’.
All Newcastle beaches made the top tier, with suitable swimming conditions all year round.
One waterway in Port Stephens rated poorly, while four in Lake Macquarie also fell below the fair grade.
