A man has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl he befriended through a social media website.
The 27-year-old allegedly used the website last month to contact the 14-year-old girl.
He invited her to his Nelson Bay home last week where police allege he sexually assaulted her.
The girl reported the incident to police, and yesterday they arrested the man at his home.
He was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault and five counts of assault with an act of indecency.
He will face Maitland Local Court today.
