PORT MACQUARIE LAUNCHES BICENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
200 years ago, John Oxley and his team of 15 explorers journeyed from inland New South Wales to the Pacific Ocean, discovering the land now known as Port Macquarie.
Today, the town’s bicentenary celebrations got underway at the reinstated John Oxley Memorial.
“Really pleased to unveil it, launch it as part of our bicentenary celebrations coming forward and I’m sure the community will be pleased to see it back in its rightful place.” – Port Macquarie Mayor, Peta Pinson
It also marked the official launch of the community event, ‘200 Together’, giving people an opportunity to learn about the region’s history.
