PENSIONER PROPOSAL PUT TO NEWCASTLE COUNCIL TONIGHT

A proposal to give back to Newcastle’s pensioners will be considered by Newcastle Council tonight.
The independents will move a motion to provide a $100 voluntary rebate, to help pensioners with everyday costs of living.
Councillor John Church says some of the financial pressures are a result of rate rises.
“The cost increase has come directly from council, and we believe a $100 rebate is a fair and moderate measure to show our support for some of the most vulnerable in our community.”
It’s estimated the total cost would be around $1.1-million.
