Revised Newcastle Rugby League competitions finally kick off this weekend, for a 10-week home and away season.
The first grade comp is now down to six teams, with Kurri and Macquarie not competing this year.
On Saturday, Lakes host Wests and Cessnock will do battle with Maitland.
On Sunday, Souths face the Butcher Boys at St John Oval.
