TABLES TURNED ON NORTH WEST GRAIN MOVEMENTS

It’s not often you see grain arriving on ships in Newcastle to be delivered TO the north-west region.
But this week, the tables turned.
A shipment of grain has arrived and is on its way to farmers out here, as they struggle to source feed for their livestock.
It’s made a week-long journey all the way from Western Australia.
“It’s 38,000-tonnes of wheat and a bit of barley to supply the local market, predominately for stock feed and some up country for the cattle market,” Martin Mackay, Newcastle Agri Terminal.
It’s not only grain coming in from interstate, with hay supplies also being delivered.
“Western Australia has had a good year for the last couple of years, and they’ve got plenty of grain. We need to supply the local market here particularly for the stock feed manufacturers for particularly poultry.”
