CONTRACT AWARDED FOR GUNNEDAH OVERPASS

Work is set to begin on a new Gunnedah overpass before November this year.

The $62-million contract has been awarded, and locals are expected to be hired in construction.

The overpass is designed to prevent traffic holdups, especially when emergencies happen, as well as boost jobs and productivity, connecting the Kamilaroi and Oxley highways.

“We have a very strong plan for a processing precinct and with this new second road over rail and the access for heavy mass load vehicles to come through into this region, it really is going to open up all of those opportunities,” Councillor Jamie Chaffey, Mayor Gunnedah Shire Council.

It’s expected to provide day-to-day benefits as well.

“This Gunnedah overpass will have cycling access, pedestrian access, it will have an off take into Barber Street as well,” Kevin Anderson, Member for Tamworth.
