There was an anxious moment or two for police officers in the Hunter this afternoon, when a man entered Cessnock Police Station with a hand grenade.
He brought the device in to lawfully surrender it, but as a precaution, the station and its surrounds were evacuated.
Defence force personnel were called in to safely remove the grenade.
