MAITLAND FOOTBRIDGE SET TO RISE

The Maitland overpass that famously crashed when it was struck by a cherry picker on the New England Highway 17 months ago, is set to be replaced.
Trucks carrying a new footbridge have arrived, with the highway set to be closed from 11:45 tonight so it can be erected.
“It’s been constructed to sit around 1 point 2 metres higher than the last one and hopefully the heavy vehicles will abide by the height restrictions that the RTA put down.”
“I’m glad it’s finally there but it’s useless until the Keneally state government can mange to get a connecting footbridge from the railway platform, and I understand that’s months away yet, maybe next year.”
