RETIRED MARINE RESCUE VOLUNTEER TAKES A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

A former Marine Rescue volunteer has been given a trip down memory lane, in the form of a special tour of the new tower at Ballina Bar.
Retired Gold Coast resident, Ivan Mackey, volunteered at the organisation from 1982 to 92.
He says the multi-million dollar tower is a far cry from the caravan set-up he’s used to..
But despite this, he believes he’s still got the magic touch.
“No I wouldn’t be confused at all I can handle a computer. I saw one of the volunteers up there working the radio’s this morning, I thought I could still do that.”
The tower was officially opened in April last year.
