A man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious assault in Maitland yesterday.
Just before 1.30 yesterday afternoon, emergency services were called to a home on Catherine Street, where they found a woman with serious head injuries.
Police allege the woman’s ex-partner struck her with a hammer and metal bar.
The 38-year-old was taken to John Hunter Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
A 23-year-old man was arrested a short time later at a nearby car park.
He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder.
He appeared in Maitland Local Court today, where he was refused bail.
The matter was adjourned to Newcastle on October 21.
