CLARENCE VALLEY COUNCIL VOTES FOR JOINT ORGANISATION
Clarence Valley Council has voted to support the formation of a Joint Organisation, with Nambucca Shire Council and Coffs Harbour City Council.
Today, councillors voted unanimously to support a written request to the State Government, wanting to form an umbrella North Coast Councils organisation.
Mayor Jim Simmonds was originally concerned a larger J-O would weaken Clarence Valley’s role in decision making.
“My concerns also with a much larger JO would refer to costs of another layer of government so to speak.”
“Certainly the ratepayers that are in the northern area of the Clarence Valley don’t really have a community of interest with the southern reaches of Port Macquarie.”
The formation of the J-O relies on Coffs Harbour City Council voting in favour on Thursday.
An invitation has been extended to Bellingen Shire.
