Over one-thousand rail workers are being kept busy this long weekend, with the Australian Rail Track Corporation conducting major upgrades along both its Hunter and Newcastle lines.
No trains are running along either line as staff work to resurface tracks and conduct signal works.
Buses will replace trains until 2am on Tuesday.
