‘HANDS ACROSS THE SANDS’ PROTEST IN NEWCASTLE

More than 400 people have joined hands at Nobbys Beach, in protest against off shore gas and oil exploration.
They’re calling on the government to invest in clean energy, following recent seismic testing off Newcastle’s coast.
“Biodiversity, thriving ecosystem, tourism, jobs and fishing jobs there’s absolutely so many things at stake that asset energy and offshore gas fields jeopardise,” Johanna Lynch from Hunter Community Environment Centre says.
The Hands Across the Sand event is part of more than a dozen similar protests across the country.
