KAYAKER INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY BOAT

A kayaker has severe injuries to his hand and forearm after being struck by a boat at Port Stephens this morning.
Police say the collision occurred just east of Port Stephens and that the kayaker was hit by the boat’s propeller.
The 46-year-old was was treated by paramedics and flown to the John Hunter Hospital on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a serious condition.
A 26-year-old man driving the boat was taken to Nelson Bay Community Hospital for mandatory testing. The boat will be examined by specialist police.
