It’s been revealed a man who tragically drowned while trying to save his dog, was from Bellbird in the Hunter Valley.
The 42-year-old man entered the water at Lake Cathie, near Port Macquarie yesterday, after his dog got into difficulty, but the man became caught up in the strong current and was dragged out to sea.
A surfer brought him in to shore a short time later, where an off-duty police officer attempted CPR but he couldn’t be revived.
A report is now being prepared for the coroner.
