CONTAINER CAP UNDER THE ACCC MICROSCOPE
The consumer watchdog will examine issues in Australia’s container shipping industry.
The ACCC says the investigation will look into ‘contractual restrictions’, which could prevent the expansion of a container freight terminal in Newcastle.
Currently, there’s a clause in the Port Botany operator’s contract, which would limit Newcastle to exporting 30,000 containers annually, with a million-dollar fee for every subsequent ship.
