WORKING GROUP FORMS TO KEEP EMERGENCY SERVICES SAFE
A working group has been formed to investigate whether New South Wales should follow in Victoria’s footsteps in reducing speed limits around emergency sites.
Currently, those saving lives have little protection from passers-by.
“There’s also some unintended consequences that need to be looked at. People automatically should slow down, in my view, and take its easier and drive to conditions and drive with care around an emergency situation,” Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson.
The working group will examine the pros and cons, with Victoria putting the 40-kilometre an hour emergency speed limits into action from July 1.
“No doubt they’ll be touring the country. They’ll be talking to different people and gathering information. We’ll take a lot at the recommendations and we’ll go from there.”
