NEWCASTLE STEEL MANUFACTURER CELEBRATES 100-YEARS ON THE JOB

One of the nation’s longest standing steel manufacturers celebrated its centenary in Newcastle today.
The Commonwealth Steel Company opened in 1918 and continues to be a leading contributor to the industry, both locally and internationally.
One of its proudest achievements – its contribution to the Allied effort in World War Two.
“We produced armour plated steel here, steel for munitions and also manufactured two-million steel helmets for the allies.”
Today, more than 500 people work at Comsteel’s Waratah facility.
