HYPE IN OVERDRIVE FOR REPCO RALLY

The World Rally Championship on the border was launched with little fan-fare, but we’re told it’ll be a different story come September.

  1. Absolutely sickening. The people in Tweed shire overwhelmingly do not want this rally because this we want to protect our incredible biodiversity in fauna and flora- which is greater than anywhere in Australia and here is this insane race going through koala colonies and endangered species habitat in breeding season! We are furious about it. Take your rally somewhere else PLEASE!

  2. Yeah, real exciting. Just what we want here. This peaceful relaxed area, one of the retirement capitals of Australia, taken over by thousands of revheads who get there kicks watching car crashes. Surely if thats you want to do there are racetracks for that kind of thing. Maybe you could go an do in an old minesite, or plantation. No one would care if you did that, but your doing it through Australias most bio diverse area, though core Koala habitat and about 400 peoples homes. Get your kicks from Rallying if you will, but all those who support it here should be deeply ashamed of themselves. There is a time and a place. Its not here, and its not in Spring – prime breeding season of many endangered animals.

  3. Obviously I’m a person who won’t be excited by anything. As quoted by one person on this clip “If this doesn’t excite you, then nothing will”. Well that’s me. I think it’s a disaster for our beautiful area and I totally oppose this rally in our region. The clip even refers to the people who are participating and watching as “rev heads”. How embarrassing for Australia and those who care about the environment, especially in the Tweed and Kyogle shires where we have some of the highest biodiversity in Australia. Take your rally somewhere else. It’s not wanted here!!

  4. I doubt this rally will be all its made out to be. With only 2 major teams competing, and the last I heard the Aussie driver they were raving about hasnt even been given a car to drive.
Thankfully, most people in this area, both young and old are more sensitive to the environment than the sound of screaming engines.
What a joke Repco says they are environmentalists, then put a high speed rally through national parks in breeding seasons every second year. They ignored the majority of voices in the Tweed, lied to the money hungry, then went crying to the government because they weren’t wanted. Well as far as Im concerned they can stand on their heads and flap their legs, and they still wont be wanted.
Oh btw, I live in Banora Point, I dont drink, and dont do drugs and im over 50 and Im a tax and ratepayer.

  5. In this age of Peak Oil Production and climate change, isn’t it a bit silly to still be having these rev-head events? Really, this is a DINOSAUR event, and it’s no wonder WA broke their contract and got rid of Rally Australia..
Go elsewhere, Repco Rally. If you must have gas-guzzling cars races, at least don’t choose one of the most biodiverse regions in Australia.

  6. I have spoken to many people over the last few months and only 3 thought it a good idea I came here to retire and enjoy the quiet country life for bushwalking and planting rainforest trees and hate that our state government can pass legislation to allow world racing car event through our local roads which are areas of enormous high biodiversity.
