Tambar Springs residents are being warned to boil drinking water before use.
It comes after E. Coli was detected in the water this week.
Gunnedah Shire Council says immediate action has been taken with the New South Wales Department of Health to correct the situation.
Consuming the contaminated water could lead to gastrointestinal illnesses.
