FOREIGN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS LEARN SURF SAFETY IN NEWCASTLE
It’s a learned skill many Australians take for granted – the ability to stay safe in the surf.
So for a dozen international students from the University of Newcastle, a practical safety lesson today was well received.
“Before I come here I didn’t know anything about rips or anything,” student Sina Saghari says.
“We’re not only going to teach them some safety tips, but also run down scenarios for rescues and some basic first aid and things like that,” Samantha Hallett from Hunter Surf Life Saving says.
The annual initiative aims to curb the number of drownings.
