DOG UNIT STILL ANOTHER SIX MONTHS AWAY

Tamworth is another step closer to securing a permanent dog unit with the expressions of interest period completed.
The chosen handler will undergo months of training before eventually starting work with the Oxley LAC.
“It’s a 16 week training course, uh and what that will do, will allow the dog handler to learn all about what it needs to do and the requirements, and then there’s a four week placement with New South Wales police dog unit at Menai.”
The handler will work with both a drug and general purpose dog.
“The problems we have with ice and various drug problems, uh we’re really looking forward to having a dog uh permanently based here.”
MP Kevin Anderson is hopeful the successful applicant will be announced within the next week.
