A 67-year-old Newcastle man is in hospital tonight, after being pulled unconscious from the surf at Dixon Park Beach.
It’s believed he may have suffered a medical episode before being found face-down in waist-deep water.
Lifeguards, and then paramedics, performed CPR for 40 minutes on the sand.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he’s undergoing surgery.
