The traffic bottleneck which has been a feature of the Pacific Highway at Macksville for years on Boxing Day was no where to be seen today with vehicles flowing freely on the newly opened bypass.
Heavy rain though did slow traffic around Macksville and Nambucca when a fierce storm passed through this afternoon.
Traffic on the north coast is expected to remain heavy, particulary over the next week.
Motorists have been urged to exercise patience and drive to conditions.
