Newcastle Council has approved a move to turn the former Hamilton Bowling Club into a childcare centre.
Last night, the council resolved to grant Adamstown Preschool Services a 20-year lease of the Samdon Street site.
The buildings have been empty since the club closed in 2013 due to financial reasons.
The lease now needs to be signed off by the Local Government Minister.
