GOLD COAST POLICE LAY EXTORTION, DRUGS AND WEAPONS CHARGES

Queensland detectives have charged a 31-year-old with extortion, drug and weapons offences, as part of a police operation targeting organised crime.
Operation Oscar Pompeii is focused on a Middle Eastern organised crime network, with detectives arresting the man at a Surfers Paradise unit on Saturday.
The man faces a range of charges including trafficking and possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of a semi-automatic pistol, and extortion.
Police also say the man is part of a syndicate that regularly uses violence as part of their drug trafficking.
He remains in custody and will re-appear in court in January.
Operation Oscar Pompeii commenced in August last year, and focusses on the alleged trafficking of illicit drugs in the Gold Coast and South Brisbane areas.
