RETIRED COP RECEIVES POSTHUMOUS AWARD

A retired Gosford police officer has been awarded a posthumous Certificate of Merit for his dedication to the force.

Sergeant William Grenfell’s widow, Betty, received the award on his behalf at her Alstonville home today.

Sergeant Grenfell was awarded the accolade for his quick thinking and determination in the arrest of two men in Gosford for a Queensland double murder in 1975.

“it’s a recognition of exceptional police work above what we’re normally paid to do”

“it would have meant the world because he was an exceptional policeman”

Ms Grenfell said it was a shame her husband passed away before receiving the award.
