TRAFFIC CHAOS ON PACIFIC HIGHWAY NEAR BALLINA

There was traffic chaos on the Pacific Highway near Ballina on the far north coast today, after a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of diesel overturned just before 8am.

No-one was injured, but the highway was closed in both directions for much of the morning, as another truck was called in to decant the fuel.

Hazmat crews also had to clean up a 2,000 litre leak.

“diesels a bad pollutant, luckily it was confined within this area and there was minimal impact on the environment”

Traffic was banked up for several kilometres, and didn’t return to normal until late this afternoon.
