GREENS COUNCILLOR FIGHTS TO DEFEND THE STORE

Greens councillor John McKenzie is calling for The Store facade to be retained as part of Newcastle’s bus interchange.

He says The Store was built in 1898 and was once the largest cooperative in the southern hemisphere.

Councillor McKenzie will put forward a motion during Tuesday night’s council meeting.

“Our heritage is important, it’s our shared story – a story of working class solidarity and how it built this great city.”
