CALLS FOR FERRY BREAKDOWN PLAN ON PORT MACQUARIE’S NORTH SHORE

There are calls for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to implement an SMS messaging system, to alert residents when a ferry has broken down.
It comes after major engine problems forced the closure of the Settlement Point Ferry earlier this month, which meant residents had to use the smaller Hibbard Ferry.
The Northside Progress Association has dicussed the issue with Mayor Peta Pinson and other councillors.
“Well it came down to three issues, it came down to being able to get the message out to us and contacting us, how do we get the school kids across the river and then some issues with traffic around hibbard drive.” – Northside Progress Association President Kingsley Searle
In a statement, council says it’s working towards a suitable outcome for the community.
