TWO TO FACE ALLEGED DRUGS CHARGES IN TWEED HEADS
Police have used capsicum spray to subdue a man after he sped away from a random breath test on the Far North Coast.
Shortly after 2am on Sunday, police attempted to stop a silver-coloured Subaru on Ducat Street in Tweed Heads.
The vehicle sped away onto the M1 Motorway towards Queensland, where it was located a short time later travelling slowly in a breakdown lane of the M1 with smoke emitting from the engine and exhaust.
When the driver refused to stop, police smashed the window with a baton, using capsicum spray to bring the 31-year-old man under control after he allegedly resisted arrest.
An 18-year-old woman in the car was also arrested.
Police allege they discovered methamphetamine, cannabis, a knife, cash, and other items suspected of being stolen during a search of the car and surrounding area.
The man was charged with supplying and possessing a prohibited drug, resisting arrest, custody of knife in a public place, and two counts of goods in custody.
The woman was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, and goods in custody.
