COUNCIL BACKS WHALE REVIEW, FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTERS
Ballina Council will call on the State Government for a review into protocols for burring whale carcasses on beaches.
Councillor Sharon Cadwallader put forward the motion at today’s council meeting, citing community concern over a dead whale that was buried and then exhumed at South Ballina beach two weeks ago.
“While ever there’s a perception in the community that burying whale carcasses on the beach attracts sharks, that perception should be taken seriously.”
Meanwhile, majority of councillors also threw their support behind a motion to rally the Emergency Services Minister Troy Grant for full time firefighters.
“An emergency service that’s provided to our growing community is something that we as a council and as a community we acknowledge is something we have to pay.”
