PARENTS CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY LEAVING CHILDREN AT HOME ALONE

Two parents from Port Stephens will face court after one of their young daughters was found wandering a road by herself.

Passersby contacted police after they found the girl on Government Road in Nelson Bay, about 1.45am on Sunday.

The girl told police where her home was, and a search was conducted of the unit where another child was found asleep in a cot.

Police contacted the parents, and it’s been alleged that cannabis and white powder believed to be methylamphetamine was discovered in the woman’s handbag.

The two girls, aged 4 and 2, were removed from their parents’ custody.

The parents were charged with abandoning a child under 7, and possessing a prohibited drug, and will appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court next month.
