FLAMING SIGN SPARKS EMERGENCY AT CHARLESTOWN SQUARE

A large sign at Charlestown Square was drawing attention for all the wrong reasons today.

Security raised the alarm at midday after noticing smoke pouring from the 15-metre tall sign on the Pearson Street side of the shopping centre.

The road and part of the centre’s carpark was closed as firefighters tackled the situation from ground level and above.

The fire was quickly contained.
