UPDATE: FOUR INJURED IN SINGLETON TRUCK CRASH
LATEST: Clean up crews move in as the flames are doused by emergency services.
Meanwhile a 67-year-old man, believed to be an innocent motorist, arrives at the John Hunter Hospital.
He’s being treated for a number of injuries while the man allegedly responsible is in police custody.
EARLIER: Police have launched a critical incident investigation following a truck crash at Singleton.
Around 7.30am, police responded to reports of a semi-trailer stolen from a service station at Murrurundi in the Hunter Valley.
The truck was allegedly being driven erratically south along the New England Highway, through Muswellbrook and towards Singleton.
Police did not pursue the truck but as it approached Singleton officers deployed road spikes.
The truck continued into George Street where it caught fire after crashing into several vehicles and buildings, injuring a number of people.
A man in a vehicle was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition while the driver of the allegedly stolen truck was arrested at the scene
A critical incident team will investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident including the deployment of road spikes.
EARLIER: The Westpac Rescue Helicopter is transporting a 67-year-old male from the Singleton crash to the John Hunter Hospital.
He reportedly suffered multiple injuries and is one of four people who were injured.
A second helicopter from Sydney has been tasked to the scene as well.

EARLIER: Four injured, driver arrested in Singleton truck crash.
Early reports indicate the truck, carrying a load of fertiliser, was stolen and involved in a police pursuit before crashing and burning on the corner of George and Elizabeth street in Singleton.
Two rescue helicopters have been sent to the scene, with four people reportedly injured. The extent of their injuries is still unknown at this stage.
Before crashing near Burdekin Park, the driver allegedly drove down the sidewalk, knocking several vehicles out of the way before coming to a stop at the Royal Hotel.
The New England Hwy has been closed between Ravensworth and Whitingham, emergency services are telling motorists to take Lemington Road & Golden Highway instead.
EARLIER: An emergency situation is underway at Singleton, after a truck crashed into a hotel a erupted into flames.
The accident happened at around 9 o’clock this morning on George Street, opposite a service station.
Emergency crews are on scene.
