$2300 FINE FOR SPEEDING ON THE NORTH COAST

A man has been fined more than $2300 after allegedly recording a speed nearly 80kph over the limit on the North Coast.
Policed stopped the 40-year-old man from Toormina on the Pacific Highway in Glenugie at around 6.30pm yesterday, after he was allegedly detected travelling at 179km/h in a 100km/h zone.
He was issued an infringement notice for exceed speed over 45km/h, fined $2384, and had his licence suspended for six months.
Operation Slow Down, the state’s Labour Day weekend road safety campaign, comes to an end at midnight tonight.
In another incident, a man was charged after allegedly leading police in a pursuit through Cudgera Creek in the Northern Rivers, just before 2am this morning.
Police apprehended the driver and passenger after they allegedly fled the vehicle, a Mitsubishi ASX, on the Pacific Motorway.
The pair was arrested, and the 25-year-old male driver was charged with police pursuit, along with a string of other charges.
He will appear before Tweed Heads Local Court tomorrow.
The male passenger was issued with a field court attendance notice for being conveyed in a stolen vehicle.
The long weekend road toll stands at five.
