A 17 year old boy has been arrested after he allegedly tried to kidnap a five year old girl at a north coast shopping centre.
It’s alleged the knife-wielding teenager tried to drag the child away from her mother at Ballina Fair yesterday afternoon.
Police say a number of bystanders intervened, and the child managed to break free.
The youth was then disarmed and held by a number of witnesses.
One of the good samaritans suffered a stab wound to his hand during the standoff.
The teenager has been charged with numerous offences including, attempted abduction.
