LABOUR OF LOVE FOR LOCAL FISHING IDENTITY

A labour of love by a local fishing identity has seen the light of day.
John Clarke’s book Oysterman has been released – it details the industry in the Port Stephens area.
It also outlines the turmoil in the mid 1980s when a feral shellfish caused a falling out between farmers, and brought the sector to its knees.
“It caused a split in the oyster growing community as to wether to grow this oysterand harvest it or make every attempt to get rid of it.”
